Asheville Small Plate Crawl should be a national holiday. I’m not kidding. It happens only once a year — three days of unabashedly stuffing face from morning to night at Asheville’s best independent and chef-owned restaurants. The fun returns Tuesday to Thursday, Feb. 24-26. 2015 and you bet I’ve already started stalking their page for menu postings and planning my path through my favorite restaurants.
During these tasty three days, chefs from more than 20 of Asheville’s award-winning restaurants will be showcasing their cuisine and talent with items ranging from $3 to $8 on their special Small Plate Crawl menus. “Crawlers” are automatically entered into prize drawings that include an overnight package at The Grand Bohemian Hotel and gift cards at participating restaurants when they check out at restaurants. Because small plates taste delicious regardless of the weather, this is a rain-or-shine (or snow) event.
Who’s participating this year: The Buci Bar, Carmel’s Kitchen & Bar, Chai Pani, Chestnut, Creperie Bouchon, Curate, French Broad Chocolate Lounge, Isa’s Bistro, Jerusalem Garden Café, King James Public House, Lexington Avenue Brewery, The Lobster Trap, The Market Place, Mela, Nightbell, Posana Café, Sante Wine Bar, Strada Italiano, Tupelo Honey Café, Zambra, Buffalo Nickle, Sunny Point Café and the Red Stag Grill. You can view a printable map and preview menus from the oh, so helpful Asheville Small Plate Crawl website.
Some of my favorite stops last year were Isa’s Bistro, French Broad Chocolate, Strada, The Lobster Trap, and Red Stag Grill. I’m so excited that Curate is on the list this year! That’s going to be a must.
Print an AIRpass for the easiest way to experience the Crawl. AIRpasses are available here. The AIRpass is not required, but it contains details like addresses and hours of participation for all of the restaurants participating in the 2015 Small Plate Crawl.
NEW this year – Scan QR Codes with mobile devices. Register ahead for Asheville Small Plate Crawl or the first time you scan a code during the event at ChekTrek.com. Servers will present you with a QR Code to scan for validation when paying at each restaurant. Free QR Code mobile apps are available for download. We recommend “QR Code Reader” by Scan, Inc.
If you don’t have access to a mobile QR reader, but want to be registered for the prize drawing, ask your server for a “Takeaway Card” at each restaurant. Enter the unique code from each card on the Asheville Small Plate Crawl website. Every time you scan a QR Code or enter a Code on the site you are entered in the prize drawing. The more restaurants you visit, the better your chances of winning. (Talk about competition dining!) Prizes are listed on the Crawl website. Winners will be contacted by email after the crawl, so keep an eye on your inbox!
