I almost blacked out this morning when I heard Biscuit Head is coming to Greenville! My friend, let me introduce you to the tastiness of Biscuit Head, so you too, can experience my unbridled joy. I was wide-eyed and starving when we walked into the crowded Saturday morning hot spot in West Asheville during our recent anniversary fun day up the mountain in the big AVL. We waited in line, placed our order, and grabbed a seat at the bar. Then I snatched up my camera and headed for the Jam and Butter bar.
Yes, there is an entire self-serve bar of jams, jellies and butter. I filled no less than six little paper cups with: Chocolate Raspberry Truffle, Sweet Potato Butter, Bacon Butter, Lime Caramel Butter, Pork Butter, Orange Sage Butter… I lost count. I was in jam and butter heaven. The place looked like it had been ransacked by foodie zombies but hell, I could have cared less. I filled my cups and snapped away. I apparently lost track of time, because when I returned to where I left my husband, he was sitting over our (greatly cooled off and untouched) food waiting on me to return so I could take pictures of it. (Yes, he rocks for putting up with me.)
I had ordered The Classic: a biscuit sandwich with egg and cheese and as my side I ordered up the Sriracha Maple Sausage. And I couldn’t turn down the GIANT Mimosa with fresh Orange Juice. Dan the Man chose the Gravy Flight with three half biscuits and three gravies: Local Pork Sausage, Creole Smoked Tomato, Mushroom and Steak and a cup of coffee. And HUGE news for my Gluten-free peeps, they have gluten-free biscuits. For real.
Owners Jason and Carolyn know what the people want, for sure. They set out to make biscuits as big as a cat head, and boy did they succeed! There was no way I could finish the giant plate of fluffy heaven on my plate. The restaurant also operates as green as possible using as much recyclable and compostable products as possible and are all about local sourcing, using premium ingredients from local farmers and food producers.
Did I mention they have hotsauce? I love the sweet and hot. Oh, so good. And the cool thing is, you can take home their jams, jellies and hot sauces. They have quite the selection of grab and go merchandise including really awesome mugs. (I MUST have a Biscuit Head mug.)
Check out that menu! So, the word on the street is Biscuit Head could soon be headed to one of the new mixed use developments off Main Street or the Pendleton District of Greenville. Just another tasty foodie rumor? Who knows, but dang I’m salivating. Biscuit Head, we’re waiting on you!
