Blogger Life: On the Road
My crazy blogger life has taken me all over the place these last two weeks. I visited Heirloom in Charlotte with my buddy the Pantry Doctor, and two of our friends from the Charlotte Bloggers group. Follow them at Feast + West and Off the Eaten Path. Did you know Heirloom was voted one of 100 Best Restaurants for Foodies by OpenTable? The Executive Chef, Clark Barlowe, will be a guest chef at Euphoria Greenville this year, so I had to check out his famed farm-to-table restaurant. The attention to every single thing on his menu, and in his restaurant, is very cool, and definitely something you need to experience.
I was so happy to be back at historic The Dunhill hotel in Charlotte, and especially happy to be back at their hotel bar. I’ve raved about their bartender before. Pete is the man! We said hi before heading out, but landed back at the bar late night and it was buzzing with industry folks until the early hours of morning. We had a blast meeting people from all over the place. This isn’t a huge bar, folks, but this is twice I’ve been there long into the night, and if the industry folks are raving, there’s definitely something to rave about.
Greenville Restaurants You Can’t Miss
I hit The Nose Dive upstairs Crafted space with Greenville Blog Society last night for our June blogger meetup. The dessert menu has changed since my last visit, so I was excited to see the new gluten free offerings… and eat all the icing off the ones that weren’t!
I squeaked into The 05, Augusta Road’s new neighborhood hot spot, just before kitchen closing time last night. The chef is Sam Murray, who impressed me beyond measure at last year’s Competition Dining Series when he went up against Teryi Youngblood of Passerelle. That competition was SERIOUSLY close, folks. Chef was bummed the dining series didn’t return to Greenville this year. He was looking for a rematch. There’s no hood at The 05 (meaning no cooktop), but they have a delicious looking selection of flatbreads and snacks. We ordered the cheese board and it was crazy good. The place is dog friendly, too.
I was super excited to join my friend Ruta Fox at Methodical Coffee one morning to chat it up with one of the partners, Will Shurtz. We talked about their brand expansion and sampled some of the new products in the coffee shop (see my love list above). And thanks to their old school record player, I found me some new tunes! (Ryan Adams!!!)
Have you been to Yellow Ginger on Poinsett Hwy? My crazy big portion of gluten free Pad Thai lasted me three meals this week. If you are gluten free, ask them for their gluten free menu. They are also happy to make-to-order if you have any other allergies.
My family has joined Golds Gym this summer. It’s actually pretty fun to work out somewhere besides my treadmill at home (which, honestly, I rarely do). I got on the elliptical for the first time this week. That’s one sweaty two-minute workout!
That’s all I’ve got for now. Don’t forget to sign up for my new monthly newsletter in the sidebar. Every month I give you a fresh serving of Restaurant News, a roll of who’s hiring in the foodie world, and a list of upcoming food events. It’s been a huge goal of mine for years, and with some help from my handy Virtual Assistant, Stacie, in Nashville, we finally made it happen. Sign up and stay tuned!
