I can’t think about my college years without belting out a Hootie & the Blowfish tune. I remember my cousin called from USC and said the band was playing in the park. If you brought canned goods you got in free. My girlfriends and I blew off our finals studying sessions, loaded our cut-off blue jeans and flip-flop wearing selves in the car and headed to Columbia the next day. It was our sophomore year at Winthrop University. It was a beautiful sunny day, and we sang out lungs out the whole way there, during, and all the way back.
Still, one of my all-time favorite bands, I sing my head off, much to the disdain of my teenage daughter, when I hear a Hootie song playing on the car radio… or in the grocery store… or in TJ Maxx. (I’ve become the embarrassing parent… mostly on purpose.) And I don’t differentiate. Hootie? Darius turned country? Don’t care. All Hootie.
In case you missed it, Hootie played David Letterman last week. Check it here.
Okay, I’m getting to the point! Hootie now has a brew. Hootie and the Blowfish have collaborated with Cigar Brewing and Rock Brothers for an American Blonde Ale being brewed at Palmetto Brewing.
They are serving it up at Grill Marks in Greenville at 209 South Main Street, so get on out there and try some! (Yes, you endured my humorous storytelling for that one line announcement.) Bottoms up!
For more Hootie’s Homegrown Ale news follow Rock Brothers Brewing or the Homegrown Ale Facebook page. And if you need a Hootie fix, there are still tickets available for the band’s annual Family Circle Stadium Home Grown concert August 7 and 8. For tickets, go here.
