Sugar, Nick’s BBQ, shoes. Oh, honey!

I am so excited to share this post with you. I FINALLY found Sugar Bakeshop in Charleston. Another check off my Charleston Sandbucket List. Huge thank you to my buddy Greg who was navigating the Charleston streets, because my last attempt at finding the cupcake bakeshop was abandoned due to utter frustration.

Also, upon walking in the door, I was greeted happily and told to take as many pictures as I wanted. Blessed be. YAY! The tiny little shop is actually owned by two NY architects turned bakers and is decorated in crafty chic. LOVE. I swooned over the beautifully rounded top cupcakes: lemon curd, lime curd, double chocolate, strawberry… so beautiful. I ordered half a dozen, which I happily attacked with a fork when we returned home. The lime curd and lemon curd were over the moon amazing. I also snagged two hollow chocolate eggs filled with jelly beans for my girl. People packed in behind us, so I didn’t hang around for long. I can’t wait to go back to try their Mint Sun Tea and have a seat at their little table in the side garden.

While walking back to our car after lunch, I saw these. I was like a kid who spotted Santa Claus. I am totally going back to fondle them. My kid was dragging me away from the window. I’d like to apologize to the store owner for all the fingerprints on the glass.

This is totally a backward post, but sort of in order of excitement. We initially were downtown in search of some Glazed Gourmet Donuts, but found out they close as soon as they run out, and they run out quickly. We were totally bummed and hungry, but we WERE on King Street. Not a bad place to be when you’re in search of food. So many amazing dining options, but we had four kids in tow. That threw us a curve ball. Most places had a wait and were crowded, had high tables and limited family seating. We finally found Jim ‘n Nick’s BBQ Restaurant.

The inside was spacious with family friendly seating. Sold. We grabbed a table and then Greg and I went to get in line to order our food at the counter. I’m on a taco kick, so I was excited to find bbq tacos on the menu. I ordered a catfish taco and a brisket taco with a side of mac and cheese. My picky eaters got chicken fingers. I saw they had margaritas so totally ordered one of them to try, too. The food came pretty quickly, which as a good thing for the little hungry mouths at our table.

The verdict was this: the margarita was so sour we could hardly drink it. I swear to you, we dumped sweet tea into the jar to water it down. The brisket on my taco was cold. But both tacos tasted good, and I was so hungry, I didn’t want to bother flagging someone down to get a hot taco. I’d go back again if I were that hungry, but would probably find somewhere else if I have the time.

I can’t leave you hanging on that note!

This is my Harris Teeter loot. I found Sweet Josie Brown Ale, which I’d tried at a friend’s party and totally like. I hate to say it, but I might be turning into a beer girl. There goes my figure! :) I also had to grab another SC hat because mine was totally faded and m.i.a. And I have to keep up with the Charleston food scene so I grabbed a little reading material. PS: if you swing by Mt. Pleasant in hopes of going to Piggly Wiggly, you are going to be devastated to find out, as I was last summer, that all of the Charleston area Pigs are now Harris Teeter. They don’t carry as many local products and the selection of most items has greatly dwindled. They even took away our massive olive bar. BA! We miss you Piggly Wiggly!

That’s it guys! Have a great Tuesday. I’m leaving you with a song.
